Accessing PLD in 2017 - We're here to help.
A move by the Ministry of Education to a more innovative and contestable approach means that schools have more control than ever over the professional development that they provide for their teachers. There are three main ways that schools can access PLD:
Ministry of Education Funded Professional Learning
This is the type of professional learning that schools previously accessed through professional learning contracts through the Universities. Now schools can select the accredited facilitator they want to work with who specialises in an area they are interested in developing.
We can help schools to develop and submit their PLD plans to the Ministry of Education, and we have expert practitioners available to facilitate professional learning.
The Teacher Led Innovation Fund
This is a $10 million fund that schools can access to tackle problems of practice through teacher inquiry. This is a great fund as it allows teachers and schools to be innovative, work collaboratively and share practice.
Kaha Education can help by assisting schools to shape their proposals; by making sense of their data, describing problems of practice, implementing teacher inquiry and by providing collaborative project management and co-ordination.
Tailored Professional Learning
Many schools have entered into fee for service relationships with their professional learning providers. This may be because the PLD they need has not been provided through Ministry funded PLD, because they haven’t been eligible to access Ministry PLD, or because they wanted the freedom to tailor the PLD they require.
Whatever a school’s situation Kaha Education can tailor professional learning to their requirements. Our facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and we look forward to developing strong, on-going, beneficial relationships with schools.
